Making Sensor Observations Easy and Fun!

Sensors

Seastate provides and utilizes inexpensive microprocessor-based sensors that K12 students and any enthusiast can easily build. During the initial stages of this program, we have chosen to focus on temperature sensors for marine and non-marine environments, weather sensors, and an HD camera that can be used onland or in shallow water environments. This educational effort enables students to learn about new technologies directly applied to the local environment that they live in. The sensors can be battery-driven for stand alone needs, or powered by a small diameter cable with power over ethernet. Data are collected and stored within the sensors for later downloading onto this site, or may be streamed directly through optical fiber or via a WiFi connection. Once teachers and students have developed questions to be addressed, and chosen sensors to build, we work closely with them to refine requirements to insure successful installation and data flow.
